Mission Statement

Run on a shoestring budget by a rotating, all-volunteer artists’ crew, NOoSPHERE Arts presents and promotes art from elsewhere: Our goal is to offer the U.S. audience access to current art from other countries and to bring creative people together for artistic cross-pollination and transnational collaborations.

An artist-run 501c3 nonprofit, NOoSPHERE Arts first opened its doors to the public in 2011 in a storefront gallery on the Lower East Side in Manhattan under the original name of .NO. - Art from Elsewhere.

Initially conceived as a presentation platform for exhibits and live work by contemporary artists from Norway, our original name was chosen because NO is the domain name extension for Norway and a Norwegian word for "now". Later, as our diverse, multidisciplinary arts programming expanded to include works by artists from countries all over the world, the word NO was changed to NOoSPHERE, a reference to the term used by Teilhard de Chardin and Vladimir Vernadsky referring to a "sphere of human thought" which encircles the globe and joins humankind in a planetary, collective consciousness.
As of 2016, NOoSPHERE Arts is a mobile entity headquartered in Brooklyn, where we host public art events featuring a mix of international and local artists in two sister venues: Last Frontier NYC and Mothership NYC in Greenpoint,
