Mission Statement

The founders of Project HEAL, Kristina Saffran and Liana Rosenman met while undergoing treatment for anorexia nervosa when they were fifteen years old. The girls helped each other to reach full recovery, and then wanted to help others achieve it as well. In the spring of 2008, they founded Project HEAL (Help to Eat, Accept and Live), its mission: to raise money for people with eating disorders who are not able to afford treatment and to help diminish the societal obsession with body image that helps contribute to eating disorders.

Description

Project Heal is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that raises funds and provides scholarships for those struggling with eating disorders . All contributions are tax-deductable to the extent allowed by law.

Project HEAL’s mission is to raise money for those suffering from an eating disorder to ensure that eating disorders do not succeed in taking over people’s lives. Residential treatment centers usually cost about $30,000 per month. Unfortunately, insurance companies often refuse to cover this cost because they do not classify eating disorders as a medical illness. All parents want their child to recover. Some parents are fortunate that they can afford to pay for this expensive, yet often imperative, treatment if their insurance will not cover it. However, there are many others who cannot. Others go on struggling with these disorders well into their adulthood because they have been unable to access the level of care the need.
