Mission Statement

Official partner of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore to assist in preserving and interpreting its historic buildings, landscape and rich heritage of the early 19th century.

Description

Our office is housed at the Olsen Farm - now the Port Oneida Farms Heritage Center in the park. Since 1998 when the park started to tear down or allow moldering of its over 360 historic features, we have successfully advocated for their preservation and actively been involved in fundraising for preservation projects as well as conducting hands-on volunteer projects. Educational programs that inform the visitor of the history within the landscape is evolving and we are the co-founders and fiduciary for the popular Port Oneida Cultural Fair. While continuing to expand these core activities of preserving the history and telling the story - we are entering a more robust chapter of working toward adaptive-reuse of more historic structures. In 2018 we received the Community Preservation Award from the Michigan Historic Preservation Network.
