Mission Statement

Vision: The vision of Olney Christian School is to equip students in our Philadelphia communities for life by educating their minds, nurturing their hearts, and training their hands with practical life skills. Mission: Our mission is: to make a quality, Christ-centered education affordable for Philadelphia residents.

Description

Olney Christian School is housed inside of New Life Philadelphia church. New Life Philly has served the Olney neighborhood for the past thirty-five years. During that time, the Philadelphia School district has faced enormous challenges. As a result, well over 100 schools in the city are considered to be low achieving. These schools are often found in low income neighborhoods. We consider it a grave injustice that the quality of education for a child is determined in large part by the block they live on in the city.

Our mission flows from a desire to provide justice for the poor in Philadelphia. We aim to provide students in the Philadelphia area with a choice for a quality, affordable, Christ-centered education. Our mission has its most visible impact on our budget and fund-raising. Only 40% of our budget needs are met by tuition.

We opened our doors in 2012 and welcomed 29 students to our kindergarten and combined first and second grade class. We have since expanded to 120 students in grades kindergarten to seventh. We plan to add eighth grade in the fall of 2019. High retention numbers translate to a school body that is familiar to all. While there is certainly much room for growth, it does hint of a future where stability will be the norm rather than change.
