The Vermont Wing of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is looking for Legal Officers and Assistant Legal Officers to become part of our volunteer , non-profit organization, chartered by Congress as the United States Air Force Auxiliary. Do you have a desire to volunteer and serve your community a few days a month? Do you have an interest in becoming part of a Search & Rescue organization that saves numerous lives every year throughout the United States? As a volunteer with CAP you can participate in Search and Rescue (SAR) missions; Search and Rescue Exercises (SAREX’s); and disaster relief efforts as part of the Auxiliary to the United States Air Force. Our organization also coordinates and works with other disaster relief and governmental organizations such as the Department of Homeland Security, DoD, FEMA and Vermont Emergency Management. Legal Officers and Assistant Legal Officers perform the following duties: Advise on legal implications of CAP programs and activities (subject to the constraints imposed by local law on the unauthorized practice of law) to include: Interpretation of laws and regulations. Contracts and agreements. Insurance. Real Estate Taxation. Investigation. Corporate records and organizations. Relations with local agencies. If you’re up for the task, CAP offers non-military citizens stimulating training opportunities few people outside of the military can experience. Our volunteer members continuously train to acquire the life-saving and Emergency Services skills necessary to assist Federal and State humanitarian agencies, Emergency Management agencies for when disasters strike, and to participate in search and rescue missions. Berlin, VT - The Capital Composite Squadron: This Squadron generally meets every Tuesday from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm at the CAP hangar at the Knapp State Airport in Barre, 2081 Airport Road, Berlin, VT. Rutland, VT - The Rutland Composite Squadron: This Squadron generally meets every Thursday from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Rutland Airport, 1002 Airport Road, CAP Emergency Operations Center, North Clarendon, VT. Bennington, VT - The Southern Vermont Senior Squadron: This Squadron generally meets every Tuesday at 5:15 pm at the Bennington Airport, 1563 Walloomsac Road, Bennington, VT. Springfield, VT - The Catamount Composite Squadron: This Squadron generally meets every Sunday 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm at the Springfield airport, 13 Airport Road, North Springfield, VT. While the central purpose of this ad is to find Legal Officers and Assistant Legal Officers, the focus of our efforts are in the training and preparation of Aircrew and Ground Team Members for the Vermont Wing. As such, there are numerous roles available to non-flying members, such as radio communications, logistics, planning, and mission staff participation. We invite and welcome you to be a guest at one of our regular squadron meetings. One of our members will give you a tour of the facility before or after the meeting. You will also have a chance to meet some of our members who will discuss the organization and provide you with valuable information, as well as answer any questions you might have about CAP. Qualifications: Strong organizational skills, people and communication skills. Aged 18 or older. Must be a licensed attorney authorized to practice law before the highest court of a state or the District of Columbia appointed in accordance with CAPR 111-1, Qualifications and Duties of Legal Officers. Professional Development Officers and Assistant Professional Development Officers perform the following duties: Manage and direct the CAP professional development program. Create a positive unit training environment where CAP’s adult members can develop their required skills in a comfortable, professional atmosphere. Provide adult members an awareness of training materials and opportunities available to them through CAP and other sources to prepare them to perform operational missions, staff assignments and other assigned duties. Encourage and assist adult members to take advantage of all appropriate training. Help ensure that CAP provides the best quality training with sufficient availability to support CAP's missions Apply all directives applicable to professional development programs as necessary. Comprehend the structure of the CAP professional development program and its component programs, activities and events. Ensure quick and easy access to applicable forms, directives and instructions. Maintain a unit training library. Assist unit members in proper completion and processing of forms if needed. Maintain unit training records regarding professional development activities. Assure proper test administration and security for the unit’s adult members. Correctly prepare documentation in support of training awards for the commander’s review. Submit applications for awards, ensure they are processed in a timely fashion and presented appropriately. Coordinate member training accomplishments with other members of the staff. Chaplain Officers and Assistant Chaplain Officers perform the following duties: The chaplain is a member of the commander’s staff at all echelons of command, and as such is the advisor to the commander and his/her staff on matters of religion, morals, and the well-being of personnel under his/her command. This program includes, but is not limited to: Providing pastoral care of senior and cadet members, including counseling, visitation, encouragement, and other special assistance as the chaplain may be able to provide. Performing professional functions as necessary, for example, religious services, liturgies, pastoral counseling, etc. Conducting character development programs. Participating as chaplains in cadet summer encampments and other cadet activities. Participating in Emergency Services missions and exercises by providing a chaplain presence and resource for members participating in the mission/exercise and those on the scene who may be in distress. Do you have an interest in becoming part of a Search & Rescue organization that saves numerous lives every year throughout the United States? As a volunteer with CAP you can participate in Search and Rescue (SAR) missions; Search and Rescue Exercises (SAREX’s); and disaster relief efforts as part of the Auxiliary to the United States Air Force. Our organization also coordinates and works with other disaster relief and governmental organizations such as the Department of Homeland Security, DoD, FEMA and Vermont Emergency Management. The Airborne Photographer Trainee trains toward becoming a member of a Civil Air Patrol flight crew and is tasked with taking airborne photographs of specified ground targets. This Air Crew specialty requires some basic training in Emergency Services (provided by FEMA and CAP) and a volunteer’s commitment to attend monthly meetings and monthly weekend SAREX’s. If you’re up for the task, CAP offers ordinary citizens stimulating training opportunities that few people experience outside of the military.
