H Street Community Development Corporation (HSCDC) is a market-minded non-profit that focuses on the economic development and sustainability of communities in Washington, DC. HSCDC is the leader in preserving affordable housing, increasing green initiatives and ending homelessness within DC and seeks to engage other stakeholders as well as emergent ideas, plans and goals to impact, positively the lives of Washingtonians. HSCDC seeks to facilitate and expand the revitalization of DC for the enjoyment of all residents. HSCDC Programs include 2 Scholarship Programs: the Global Scholars Foundation (GSF) and the John A. Wilson Scholarship (JAWS). Since 2006, the GSF has cultivated a community of globally competent DC Public and Public Charter School students through cultural and language emersion, college readiness and financial literacy programs. Serving 20 students yearly, the GSF immerses scholars in an 18 month intensive study program which delves deeply into the history and culture of select cities and foreign countries. The only scholarship program of its kind in DC, the GSF offers teens, particularly low income students, a comprehensive program of exposure, empowerment and education. The JAWS creates annual opportunities for worthy students to achieve scholarships for college educations which will allow them to compete in a high tech, global economy while also improving the quality of life within their respective communities through inspired community service and neighborhood revitalization.
