Mission Statement

We are a wildlife rescue centre located in the Amazon region of Ecuador. Our main objectives are reintroducing viable candidates to their natural habitat, providing the best possible conditions for animals staying permanently in the centre, and offering environmental education - with an emphasis in conservation- to those who visit the centre daily. Within 5 hectares, we care for more than 400 animals that can't be released back into the wild, and offer guided tours, focused on conservation, to more than 20.000 tourists every year. For those who can be released to their natural habitats, we rehabilitate them with barely human interaction and release them in one of the three release stations within Selva Viva, a 1750 hectares protected area just next to us.

Description

Amazoonico is an NGO and wildlife rescue center located in the Ecuadorian Amazon rainforest that rehabilitates, reintroduces, and cares for wild animals who are victims of illegal trade. We have been created in 1993 by a Swiss-Quichua couple and out of 3500 animals that have been brought here since we were born, 1500 are already in their home. Amazoonico has now become one of the biggest animal rescue centers in Ecuador.
