Mission Statement

Bo’s Effort was founded in 2015, by the DePaola family and friends, in honor of their son, Bo DePaola, who passed away from an accidental overdose at 20 years old. With the proper resources to combat mental illness, we believe that Bo could still be with us today. Bo suffered from bi-polar disorder. We now know that many other young adults suffer from various forms of mental illness. However, there are roadblocks to awareness, treatment and cures. The challenge is that mental illness is shunned, hidden and shamed. Families are often left scared, helpless, shattered, hopeless and without necessary resources. This illness affects both caregivers and those in need of mental health services. Many people are hurting and need help. Our mission is to assemble community resources to break the stigma of mental illness through education and guidance - to fund programs that educate family members and individuals seeking help to manage their illnesses to live healthy and productive lives.

Description

Our main fundraising event is our Annual Bo’s Effort Golf Tournament - now in its 4th year. The tournament supports the efforts of Anne Arundel Medical Center (AAMC) Mental Health Services and the local chapter of The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI AAC) - organizations committed to increase awareness and resources and decrease the stigma attached to mental illness in our community.
