Mission Statement

Philly CoderDojo is part of a worldwide network of FREE, volunteer-led, community-based programming clubs. Anyone from the age of 7 to 17 can visit a Dojo and learn how to code, build websites, apps, or games and explore technology in a laid-back, creative, fun and social environment. Students become coding ninjas attend science and technical fairs; engineering, design and robotics competitions; entrepreneurship; STEM internships / jobs; visit and apply to technical-oriented high schools, college and universities giving them a cognitive and early professional advantage. Philly CoderDojo plans to combat the digital skills gap creating a diverse pipeline to fast-growing technology enabled jobs.

Description

Philly CoderDojo is recruiting volunteers via IBM, corporate partners, universities, and youth-focused/ educational non-profits. Dojo sessions are held monthly on the first Saturday of the month at Bright Hope Baptist Church in the north Philadelphia near Temple University campus. Philly CoderDojo has started an exciting new initiative for our high schoolers seeking to enter college as potential Game Designers. We have had a college tour to Drexel University's Westphal College of Media Arts & Design where our coding ninjas hope to enroll. We also have entered a national gaming competition where our game design team who meets multiple times a week is creating a retro two-dimensional vertical alien drone shooter game in HTML, CSS and JavaScript. All that is missing is you! We are need of Mentors and non-technical volunteersfor as many sessions as you can.
