Lutheran Social Services (LSS) of Northern California promotes the stability and honors the dignity of those we serve - individuals who have been homeless -- by providing supportive services that lead to self-sufficiency. Our vision is to end homelessness by creating communities that have hope, stability and a path to self-sufficiency.
LSS of Northern California helps individuals of all ages and families with children to rebuild their lives after experiencing homelessness. We offer stable housing and compassionate guidance to assist each person in addressing the causes of their past homelessness. We use stable housing as our blueprint for success, because we believe that it's easier to focus on the rest of your life when you have a safe place to live.
The causes of homelessness are many and complex, so it can take months or even years to rebuild one's life, confidence and dignity after experiencing homelessness. We accompany our clients on their journey toward transformation, healing and self-care. This includes collaborating with other nonprofits to ensure each individual accesses services that are relevant to their needs.
Founded in faith but open to all, LSS assists more than 3,600 individuals every day in San Francisco, Contra Costa, San Joaquin and Sacramento counties. We manage 27 supportive housing programs and will open a new program in Redding, California later this year.
We also assist in disaster relief and recovery efforts through an affiliation with Lutheran Disaster Response and regional first responder committees in our service region, which stretches from San Luis Obispo County to the Oregon border.
