Mission Statement

Field of Dreams Horse Rescue and Adoption (FOD) is a Kane County Illinois equine rescue whose mission is to save these noble animals from challenging beginnings or surroundings, nurture them back to health in mind, body and spirit, and find them their Forever Home - their Field of Dreams! We work with local community agencies to facilitate the rescue, rehabilitation and adoption of abandoned or relinquished horses. We accept abused and neglected equines as well as horses retiring from lesson programs, police force duty or the racetrack. We accept healthy animals donated by loving owners who, for reasons beyond their control, can no longer provide care. We offer educational programs to help the public see the incredible gifts of beauty, kindness, and unconditional love these horses have to offer. Ultimately, our goal is to help all horses in our care find their own "Field of Dreams".

Description

Through our continual efforts of rescuing, rehabilitating and adopting horses, Field of Dreams is working to help put an end to the unwanted horse population that exists in the United States. With the help of our dedicated volunteers, Field of Dreams works to provide a safe haven for abused, neglected and relinquished horses and find them their forever homes - their Field of Dreams!

We care for our equine residents seven days per week, every day of the year.

Each morning an experienced, in-charge person arrives at the barn at 8:00 am to check on the horses and get everyone dressed for turnout. Horses are turned out and brought back in by Silver Spur Ranch staff.

The afternoon shift, offered every day except Friday, is run by an in-charge person who directs the activities of 3-5 volunteers. This shift begins at 4:30 pm and generally lasts until 6:00 pm or so. As a volunteer, you will receive hands on instruction in preparing supplements, leading, grooming, bathing and tending to minor medical needs. Additional barn chores will be performed as needed.

The minimum age to volunteer is 12 years old. After attending a volunteer shift observation , you will have several options for volunteering your time with Field of Dreams. You may sign up for the shifts that work out best for you, whether that be once per month or multiple times per week.
