Oakland Serves addresses a critical problem in our city: the alarming number of high school students who drop out before earning a diploma, closing the door on opportunities for well- paying jobs or further education. We work with students identified as being at highest risk of dropping out, helping them persist to graduation and thereby improving their career prospects, their personal well-being, and the quality of life in the community.
Volunteer mentors are matched with an Oakland High School student who needs support and encouragement to graduate high school. Mentors will inspire students to believe in themselves, complete their homework, and turn it in. Mentors need only be compassionate adults who can give their student the confidence and know-how to graduate with a high school diploma.
