To honor the legacy of Veterans of all wars and conflicts through the planning, fundraising, and construction of monuments that denote all Veterans sacrifices and protections of the freedom, justice, and equality we hold dear as a nation. To give advice and make recommendations to the Chief Executive Officer of DeKalb County on a variety of Veteran educational and commemorative activities designed to elevate the public’s knowledge of the historical contributions of Veterans ... To commemorate the memory of Veterans and their sacrifices through community forums, school programs, parades, memorials, etc. designed to educate the public on the contributions of Veterans.

Description

The Veterans Affairs Advisory Board (VAAB) is a quasi-governmental organization established by the executive order of the DeKalb County Chief Executive Officer in October 2001 as a coordinating council for all veterans and military within the county. In 2013, the VAAB incorporated as an IRS recognized tax-exempt nonprofit organization under tax code 501(c)(3) to raise funds to support an annual veterans golf tournament and to the bi-annual scholarship program. Achievements: (a) awarded two-$1500 college scholarships annually. (b) annual charity golf tournament for over 100 veterans golfers (c) collaborated to eliminate veterans homelessness in the county (d) veterans month and memorial month commemorative programs (d) support to JROTC.
