Mission Statement

The mission of Hermosa Vista Elementary School is to incorporate practices that ensure high levels of achievement for all students in a safe, nurturing environment where students develop a growth mindset that cultivates lifelong learning. In order to see that all students are ensured high levels of achievement, we need volunteers that are able to come in and read with our struggling intermediate students on a consistent bases.

Description

We are an elementary school that has been working on increasing students literacy skills. This year we have implemented RTI ( Response to Intervention) for grades Kindergarten through Third. We are also implementing a guided reading program for our students in First through Third grade that scored intensive or strategic on DIBELS. We have seen improvements with the number of words that our students are able to read. Because we are not a Title 1 school, we do not have reading labs or enough help to be able to provide extra one on one or small group reading time with our struggling readers in Fourth through Sixth grade. Our goal is to have every student increase their reading level by at least 30%.
