Description

Alliance for Building Communities (ABC) is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated since its inception in 1975 to providing affordable housing for low income families in the Lehigh Valley and Northeastern Pennsylvania. ABC currently owns, operates and manages a number of project- based section 8 housing units, four elderly high-rises in the Boroughs of Catasauqua, Slatington, Tamaqua and Bethlehem and several single family units in the "target" area of Allentown. To accomplish this task ABC is currently implementing a multi-unit deconversion home ownership program in Allentown and several other cities in the Lehigh Valley in which multi-unit (two and three unit row homes) are being deconverted to single family homes for low and moderate income families. This program is caled " Dorways to Home Owenership" and is reserved for first time home buyers. In December of 1996 the organizational structure of the corporation was reconfigured to reflect the new direction which the organization was headed. The organization saw its role as not just building housing but building communities. To emphasize this new direction the organization changed its name from Lehigh Housing Development Corporation to Alliance for Building Communities. The organization also owns and administers the operations of a subsidiary corporations, Lehigh Valley Housing Development Corporation (Limited Partnership for ABC's Catasauqua Elderly Apartments).
