Do you love puppies or want to learn more about dog training? Our puppy raising program provides a unique opportunity for you to assist Good Dog! in helping children and families living with autism. As a volunteer puppy raiser, you will provide a puppy with a safe home, take them to obedience classes, feed them a healthy diet, socialize them and give them lots of love. Our volunteer puppy raisers provide a great service to the Good Dog! program; you will help establish the foundation of early experiences, which are critical in preparing the puppy for Advanced Training. Dog training experience is not required and we will teach you the basics of raising a puppy and obedience training. This commitment involves four major areas of personal and financial responsibility: Care Provide a safe home environment. Supply Good Dog! approved food and other supplies required for puppy raising. Dog Training Participate in Good Dog! in-person training classes 2x/month or more, as determined by the Area Lead. Submit monthly training reports. Participate in virtual or in-person meetings as requested by Area Lead. Socialization Enroll in Good Dog! approved puppy socialization classes. Expose the puppy to a variety of environmental and situational experiences. Agree to follow Good Dog! approved socialization guidelines and handling techniques. Commitment Safely house and care for a puppy from eight weeks of age until approximately 14 months of age. Household must not include children younger than six or pets younger than 2 years of age. Devote time each day to oversee the complete care of the puppy: feeding, grooming, socialization, and exercise as recommended by our Good Dog! Lead Trainer. Puppy Raiser pays the cost of supplies, food and care. Good Dog! pays for all medical costs related to the puppy. We are seeking volunteer puppy raisers in the Fresno, CA area. Puppy raisers must be willing to travel to Fresno, CA for puppy training classes at least twice a month. Good Dog! pays for all medical costs related to the puppy. Puppy Raiser pays the cost of supplies, food and care. Please note that your household must not include children under 6 or other pets under 2 years of age. Use your dog training experience to help a child with autism! At Good Dog! Service Canines, we like to invest in our trainers! We provide dog trainers, who have little to no autism service dog training experience, with the tools, skills and knowledge necessary to fully train a service dog from puppy to a graduate! After the Apprentice Trainer graduates their first service dog, they may be selected as a paid trainer! Benefits: Acquire skills, knowledge and experience needed to be a service dog trainer Become a member of our team where trainers collaborate, give advice and ask questions on all things related to service dog training Work from home with the option of travel Provided with all training supplies and a monthly stipend to cover care & training costs Duties Include: Raise and train a puppy to become a service dog with the help of our Lead Trainer Responsible for board and care, training, socializing and de-sensitizing of a puppy Reporting: weekly calls with our Lead Trainer, submit videos of progress and fill out a training log Requirements: Previous dog training experience or a degree from Bergin University of Canine Studies Must have the time & life set-up to work with the pup everyday & take it with you most places you go Must have regular access to the internet and a video camera. Must be comfortable communicating virtually over the phone, email, and video conference Please no dogs under 2 and no children under 6 in the household Please ONLY apply if you have some dog training experience. Expect to spend at least 3 hours a week attending obedience training classes, filling in the training log, and checking in over the phone with the lead trainer, in addition to time spent working with the dog. Apprentice trainers that successfully complete the requirements of the Good Dog! Service Canines apprentice trainer program may be selected to become paid trainers with Good Dog! Service Canines. Successfully attending and completing this apprentice trainer program does not signify that the attendee is a service/assistance dog trainer or qualified to train and/or place service/assistance dogs. Assistance Dogs International has specific standards that an individual must meet in order to be an assistance dog trainer - and taking part in this class does not meet these requirements.
