Gentiva Hospice is looking for willing hearts to provide companionship and emotional support to patients with life limiting conditions and their caregivers. Our patients reside in nursing homes and assisted living facilities all over the Lamar and Forrest County areas. How you serve and how often is completely up to you! Here are a few examples of how our Facility Volunteers serve: Engage with our facility-based hospice patients through any of the following: Provide companionship and emotional support. Provide a listening ear. Encourage them to share life experiences. Play games (cards, board games, etc.) Watch TV with them. Read to them. Sing/play an instrument to them. You choose how you want to serve and how often. Our patients and families need help now more than ever during these uncertain times. Our volunteers are here to help meet non-medical needs of our patients, their families, and our Gentiva staff. We are called to be a light in the darkness. ***Vaccination for COVID-19 is NOT required to volunteer with Gentiva Hospice!*** NO medical experience is needed as volunteers DO NOT perform nursing duties or dispense medication. Gentiva Hospice is looking for US Military Veteran (or actively serving military) volunteers (ages 18 and up) to help provide support to Veterans with life limiting conditions and their caregivers. Veteran-to-Veteran Support Volunteers provide a bond to other Veterans like no one else can. America's Veterans have done everything asked of them in their mission. It is our mission is to serve those that have served us. We believe that it is never too late to give them a hero's welcome home! How you serve and how often is completely up to you! Here are a few examples of how our Veteran-to-Veteran Support Volunteers serve: Provide companionship and emotional support to fellow Veterans and their caregivers Provide respite (sitting with the Veteran/patient) while the caregiver run errands Run errands for the Veteran and their caregiver (grocery shopping and other errands as needed) Assisting Veterans in enrolling and accessing VA benefits Participate in our Veteran recognition and pinning ceremonies Assisting with replacing of lost medals and awards You choose how you want to serve and how often. Our patients and families need help now more than ever during these uncertain times. Our volunteers are here to help meet non-medical needs of our patients, their families, and our Gentiva staff. Gentiva Hospice is looking for musician/music support volunteers (ages 18 and up) to help provide music/relaxation support to our patients and veterans (with life limiting conditions) and their caregivers. How you serve and how often is completely up to you! Here are a few examples of how our Musician/Music Volunteers serve: Provide companionship and emotional support to hospice patients and their caregivers Assist in identifying patient's/Veteran's favorite music to listen to Provide musical stimulation for Alzheimer's/Dementia patients/veterans and their caregivers Provide music for relaxation for hospice patients/veterans in their home as needed Perform for large groups of elderly residents/hospice patients/veterans of local nursing homes and assisted living facilities in Jones & Wayne County (within a 60-mile radius of Hattiesburg, MS) You choose how you want to serve and how often. We also accept groups of people that would like to volunteer. What we are looking for: People with knowledge of music/music reading People that can play any of the following instruments Singer/Vocals Piano Strings (acoustic guitar, violin, cello, etc.) Wind/Woodwind (flute, clarinet, etc.) Our patients and families need help now more than ever during these uncertain times.
