Pet Therapy Volunteers Needed! Gentiva Hospice is looking for Pet Therapy Volunteers to provide companionship and emotional support to patients with life limiting conditions and their caregivers. Our patients reside in their own homes, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities all over the Jones and Wayne County areas. How you serve and how often is completely up to you! Here are a few examples of how our Pet Therapy Volunteers serve: Engage with our hospice patients through Pet Therapy in any of the following: Provide companionship and emotional support. Provide a listening ear. Encourage them to share life experiences. Watch TV with them. You choose how you want to serve and how often. *** PET THERAPY REQUIRED INFORMATION: At this time, we are only accepting dogs and or cats as part of our Pet Therapy Program. Dogs must be registered/certified through the American Kennel Club (http://www.akc.org/events/title-recognition-program/therapy/organizations/). A copy of the required vaccinations, medical evaluation, current certification/registration, in addition to the liability insurance coverage, must be given to the hospice for record keeping purposes before you may start volunteering with us (we can make copies at our office if needed). Required vaccines include Rabies and Distemper. All certifications/vaccinations/insurance must be maintained and valid at all times when volunteering with Gentiva Hospice. NO medical experience is needed as volunteers DO NOT perform nursing duties or dispense medication. Gentiva Hospice is looking for US Military Veteran (or actively serving military) volunteers (ages 18 and up) to help provide support to Veterans with life limiting conditions and their caregivers. Veteran-to-Veteran Support Volunteers provide a bond to other Veterans like no one else can. America's Veterans have done everything asked of them in their mission. It is our mission is to serve those that have served us. We believe that it is never too late to give them a hero's welcome home! How you serve and how often is completely up to you! Here are a few examples of how our Veteran-to-Veteran Support Volunteers serve: Provide companionship and emotional support to fellow Veterans and their caregivers Provide respite (sitting with the Veteran/patient) while the caregiver run errands Run errands for the Veteran and their caregiver (grocery shopping and other errands as needed) Assisting Veterans in enrolling and accessing VA benefits Participate in our Veteran recognition and pinning ceremonies Assisting with replacing of lost medals and awards You choose how you want to serve and how often. NO medical experience is needed as volunteers DO NOT perform nursing duties or dispense medication. Our patients reside in nursing homes and assisted living facilities all over the Dickson, Hickman, Humphreys & Perry County areas. How you serve and how often is completely up to you! Here are a few examples of how our Facility Volunteers serve: Engage with our facility-based hospice patients through any of the following: Provide companionship and emotional support. Provide a listening ear. Encourage them to share life experiences. Play games (cards, board games, etc.) Watch TV with them. Read to them. Sing/play an instrument to them. You choose how you want to serve and how often. NO medical experience is needed as volunteers DO NOT perform nursing duties or dispense medication.
