The Horizon Scholars Program works with members of the Central Florida community to increase college access and professional opportunities for low-income students in grades 9-12. By offering mentorship, advocacy services, networking events, and a college scholarship, the Horizon Scholars Program, in partnership with Take Stock in Children, endeavors to break the cycle of poverty for students and their families in Central Florida while giving students the chance to achieve their dreams and impact society in their own positive way.
Four Program Pillars
1. Scholarship: Students receive a 2-year Florida prepaid scholarship to help cover the cost of college tuition.
2. Mentorship: Mentors provide guidance, support, and motivation to their student throughout the academic year.
3. Leadership Development: The Horizon Scholars Program hosts a workshop series with the goal of empowering students and their families through networking and education. Workshop topics include financial literacy, conflict resolution, and resume writing.
4. Civic Engagement: Students volunteer at least 25 hours per year to local non-profit organizations, making a meaningful and lasting impact on the Central Florida community.
