Mission Statement

To propel brilliant young minds in the world’s poorest countries to access equal education and real career opportunities

Description

How Onja Works:

  1. Search for brilliant students who would otherwise be limited to low-payed, unfulfilling careers.
  2. Students receive one year of English instruction followed by one year of coding instruction at our live-in training centre.
  3. Graduates earn (and continue learning) at our outsourcing enterprise. All profits are re-invested in the next wave of students and the cycle begins again.

Even if the mission is beautiful the management and in particular, the Director of the NGO has managed to create a negative environment. While there I experienced a lot of unprofessionally: failing to deliver on promises or meeting these promises very very late, after a constant pressure. Locals are often under a lot of pressure to do the jobs of 3 people in a short time, even if is not what they have been hired for. If not, they will be confronted with a lot of shame and guilt. I, personally, found the environment very oppressive and controlling. The director tends to control what employees do in their working and in their private times. often with the excuse of taking care of people's security. The director is not open to any opinion that diverges from his idea and uses a lot of manipulation, micromanagement and lack of transparency. I have witnessed several people get fired or isolated for pointing out issues that the Director didn't agree with.
