Lunchbox Express is back for Summer 2023! Jewish Family Service is excited to welcome volunteers back to our traditional Lunchbox Express program of distributing healthy lunches directly to hungry children in our community. Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday throughout the summer to distribute fresh lunches and children's books to kids who rely on school-based free and reduced-price lunch programs during the school year. The commitment is flexible, and youth ages 12-17 can volunteer with an adult. It’s a great summer volunteer opportunity for individuals, families, and friends, as well as corporate, civic, and youth groups. All volunteers must submit the JFS application, complete the online training, and all adults ages 18 and over are required to submit a background check. Interested? Submit our application: https://www.volgistics.com/appform/981458887 Select "Lunchbox Express" under "Assignment Preferences," and we’ll be in touch with more info and next steps!

Make a difference in your life and your community and join the Jewish Family Service Citizens chapter of Best Buddies International for adults in their one-to-one friendship program. In the JFS chapter, Jewish adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) become buddies and are matched with Jewish neurotypical adults who become their peer buddies. When you become a buddy, the lasting friendship that develops helps to reduce the social isolation that is frequently associated with individuals with IDD. Best Buddies International is a program with chapters all over the world. Jewish Family Service Best Buddies Citizens chapter matches adults with and without IDD in one-to-one friendships that develop and are sustained over many years. The JFS chapter is unique in that Jewish adults are matched with each other with the goal of creating deeper friendships and connections to the Colorado Jewish community and each other.

The JFS Mobile Food Pantry provides food assistance in areas of need for those facing food insecurity. The Mobile Pantry travels to inner city neighborhoods and housing complexes with high percentages of food insecurity and to community and recreation centers to reach those with transportation barriers, and locations we serve during the summer months through our Lunchbox Express program. Removing transportation barriers ensures families experiencing food insecurity will have continued access to healthy, fresh, and culturally relevant foods such as produce, meats, and dried goods, as well as information on how to access the more than 30 programs and services offered by JFS. Assist in the set up and distribution of food to neighborhood areas where people have limited access to healthy food. Track shopper information to keep an accurate count at the sites. Greet all customers and ensure they have a positive shopping experience.

Support the Resettlement Services program by ensuring that refugees’ homes are set up and ready to welcome them upon their arrival. This includes moving furniture and other household items into an apartment or house, putting together furniture and other household items so they are ready to go upon clients’ arrival. Commitment: On-call/as needed. Typical housing setup takes approximately 4 hours - half a day. Due to the nature of the housing market and short notice we receive before families arrive, it is often difficult to schedule housing setups more than a few days in advance. Last-minute emails requesting volunteers is the norm.
