Mission Statement

Northwest Ohio CASA is a non-profit organization that utilizes trained community volunteers to serve as Court Appointed Special Advocates. CASAs serve as an independent voice to advocate in juvenile court for the best interests of children who have experienced abuse or neglect.

Description

The idea for CASA was originally conceptualized in 1977 by a Judge in Seattle, Washington who noticed a need for advocates for children who had experienced abuse or neglect. National CASA was later created in 1982 to support volunteer child advocate programs and increase the number of volunteer child advocates nationwide.

The Ohio CASA Association was formed in 1987 and later incorporated in 1994.

In 1991, Henry County created a local CASA program. That program was later expanded and became known as Northwest Ohio CASA. Northwest Ohio CASA currently advocates for children in Defiance, Henry, and Williams Counties.
