Description

Central Pennsylvania Humane Society (CPHS) is a 501(c)3 non-profit, open door animal shelter. We do not euthanize for space, treatable illnesses, or modifiable behavior issues; every animal that is medically and behaviorally treatable has a place at CPHS for as long as it takes to find their forever home. In 2017, our euthanasia rate was 2%, putting us in the category of a "no kill" shelter. However, we prefer to call ourselves a lifesaving shelter.

CPHS aims to meet the needs of the animals in our community with communication, compassion, and conviction. We employ a Humane Police Officer who regularly deals with cases of cruelty and neglect while educating the public on current Pennsylvania animal laws. One of our goals is to be able to offer community education, including dog bite prevention classes aimed toward both children and parents, and community outreach programs that include free microchipping, vaccinations, and spay and neuter services, by the year 2020. In addition to our volunteer program, we also offer Paws to Read, a program aimed to help grade school children become more comfortable reading aloud by doing so to an audience of shelter cats. Additionally, we offer a Spay Days program that provides low cost spay and neuter services to community owned pets.
