Mission Statement

Houston Community ToolBank is a nonprofit tool lending program that empowers fellow nonprofits to tackle community-based projects throughout our city. Our mission is to eliminate the barrier of tool access and increase the capacity of our partner organizations to pursue their missions. Our partners are not only mainstream nonprofits, but also schools, faith-based organizations, neighborhood associations and many others. Access to our inventory relieves the burden of purchasing, storing, maintaining and repairing items essential to projects and events. In a sector that consistently faces constraints of time, personnel and budget, our tools allow organizations to achieve their varying, passionate visions for thriving Houston.

Description

The Houston Community ToolBank is a nonprofit tool lending program that provides fellow not-for-profit organizations (and disaster volunteers) with year-round access to an inventory of tools for use in volunteer projects and facility and environmental maintenance. We provide tools to enhance the charitable sector’s capacity to serve, scale, and facilitate hands-on volunteerism in the greater Houston area. Borrowing costs 3% of the tool’s cost per week. Access to ToolBank tools eliminates the need for agencies to incur the expense of purchasing, insuring, repairing, and storing tools, reducing the costs associated with service projects and allowing these agencies to focus more of their resources on their mission.
The Houston Community ToolBank opened its doors in late 2014. The Houston ToolBank is an affiliate of Tool- Bank USA, the Atlanta-based parent organization of the new national network of ToolBanks. The Houston ToolBank is modeled after the highly successful At- lanta Community ToolBank, which has served greater Atlanta’s not-for-profit sector for more than 25 years. Over the past three years, the Houston Community ToolBank has equipped more than 95,000 volunteers with tools to complete over 5,900 projects, and given a returned value of more than $3,500,000 back into the community. We have supported disaster response ef- forts throughout Texas and Louisiana. With the help of our sponsors and local volunteers the ToolBank is able to work hard to fulfill its mission.
