Mission Statement

SHOWTUNES creates opportunities for artists, creative teams and audiences in the Puget Sound region to experience our uniquely American art form, the musical play, by producing accessible concert events of the musical theater canon designed to provide fresh takes on the familiar and acquaint theatergoers with rarely-produced material.

Description

We formed SHOWTUNES in 1999 to create concert performances of the many unsung gems of the American musical theater. Company co-founders and co-Producing Artistic Directors were Maggie Stenson Pehrson and David Edward Hughes. Our inaugural production was a sold-out concert presentation of Anyone Can Whistle at Town Hall in January of 2000.

In subsequent years we presented concerts in a variety of venues and for the 2018-2019 season we have found a home at the Cornish Playhouse on the Seattle Center campus providing a central Seattle location with convenient parking and many amenities for our patrons.

We exist to amplify the voice of the Broadway canon and the artists who bring it to life! We give voice to rarely produced musicals and sometimes help the more familiar shows be heard in a new way. Because we produce shows in concert versions rather than in fully staged productions, we are able to offer tickets that are far more affordable than the larger houses. Yet, every performance includes professional musicians and veteran actors along with newcomers to be discovered.

SHOWTUNES is excited to continue to diversify our offerings while demonstrating our unparalleled devotion to this all-American art form, the musical play. We do what we do "for the love of musicals!"
