Mission Statement
The San Diego Children’s Choir provides children with music education and performance opportunities that foster excellence and collaboration at the highest artistic level, nurturing individual development and creating a foundation for lifelong success. The Choir enriches the cultural fabric of San Diego County through the transformative power of music.
Description
"What a tragedy it would be if we lived in a world where music was not taught to children." This quote by retired U.S. Army General H. Norman Schwarzkopf describes an eventuality that SDCC is trying passionately to avoid. Music education has faced serious cutbacks. In San Diego, an average of 2 out of 10 schools offer choral music education. It's even worse in underserved neighborhoods where schools lack music education programs altogether. Many children have nowhere to turn for this important element of their education.
Since 1990, SDCC has filled this gap by providing accessible, comprehensive music education and performance experiences to San Diego children. Since its founding, SDCC has grown from serving 42 children in a two-level choir to 1,900+ children ages 1-18 through a sequential performing ensemble program (grades 1-12), a school outreach program with a focus on underserved students (Pre-K-5th), and early childhood music classes (ages 1-6).
SDCC seeks to unlock the limitless potential of San Diego's children. We are dedicated to helping them thrive by increasing their confidence, improving their abilities, and by giving them a wealth of quality experiences to use as a foundation for their future.
