Boomerang inspires youth to bounce back from challenges and move towards positive change.
After 10 years as a program of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Y, Boomerang began operations as a 501(c)3 in July 2016. We provide a program for middle and high school students who are short-term suspended from school, serving all fourteen public schools in Orange County. The positive Alternative to Suspension (ATS) program mitigates the effects of traditional exclusionary discipline by providing a restorative space for suspended students to address the issues behind their behavior through goal setting, building social-emotional learning, and bridging students back to school in a way that enables students to feel better understood and supported. In addition, we provide after school programs that focus on civic engagement, college and career planning, and leadership development.
