Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
What is home? Is it four walls? Or can it be built in the heart of a loved one? What if that heart belonged to someone with four paws? Home means different things to different people - to some it's the physical structure, and to others, it is the relationships they hold closest to their hearts. At My Dog Is My Home, we believe home is a combination of the two. We envision equitable access to home for all families. To this end, My Dog Is My Home’s mission is to increase access to shelter and housing for people experiencing homelessness with animals. By securing their ability to maintain their most important relationships and find adequate shelter, we ensure every family’s right to a home.
From humble beginnings as a multimedia exhibition in the Animal Museum, My Dog is My Home has developed into a national nonprofit that pursues our mission through a capacity-building approach. Through this method, we promote the creation of systematic, macro-level responses to homelessness and animal companionship. Our activities normally fall within one of the following categories: research, technical assistance and consultation, and training and education.
Through our efforts, we hope to expand the current accessibility of existing homeless resources, such as homeless shelters, to accommodate humans and their pets in the same space, which we referer to as "co-sheltering".
