Mission Statement

POETIC equips girls who have experienced child maltreatment, commercial sexual exploitation and sex trafficking to find their voices, reclaim their narratives and persist forward through evidence-based therapeutic interventions, creative arts therapy, an on-site school and mentorship.

Description

Founded in 2017, POETIC is the only organization in Dallas that provides therapeutic aftercare for girls leaving the juvenile justice system in Dallas, Texas. Our in-community programming is delivered through an innovative four-systems approach. The first of the four-systems is our on-site homeschool program which provides individualized education for girls to receive a high school diploma or GED. Through art therapy and music therapy, POETIC girls have the opportunity to find their voices and reclaim their narratives through creative mediums that build self-identity, self-value and self-love. POETIC girls also participate in individual and group therapy while her parents are supported with weekly parent-led support groups and case management. Lastly, our girls are exposed to job opportunities that are fostering the development of the next generation of entrepreneurs, designers, accountants, and CEOs in North Texas. We are proud to be a part of the Youth Homeless Services Coalition led by Commissioner Theresa Daniel as well as one of the United Way's 2018-2019 GroundFloor Fellows.
