Mission Statement

Amir Houston is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting urban farming and sustainability by developing garden programs for young people in Houston, TX.

Description

Amir Houston looks after gardens for children at two Boys and Girls Clubs in Houston, TX. Our mission is to get kids excited about the roots of their food by cultiv ating a space where they can discover the joys of playing in the dirt.

Special projects include the Garden Kitchen Program, where young members learn how to harvest and prepare their own food, and an initiative to prepare and promote community garden beds for folks near the Morefield Boys and Girls Club garden in the Sunnyside neighborhood.

Amir Houston is a local branch of the Amir Project, an organization that strives to inspire and empower youth through the medium of farming and gardening. We build community based on principles of food justice, inclusion and sovereignty in the hopes of fostering a more just and compassionate world.
