The Veteran to veteran program aims to pair recruited veteran volunteers with hospice patients who are also veterans. Veteran volunteers are important because they are able to form a connection with veteran patients that can help eliminate the stoicism and secrecy that veteran patients often develop from having served in the military. Veteran Volunteers can help by: -Assist veterans by reminiscing/telling life stories - Educate and assist patients in receiving veteran benefits - Take part in pinning ceremonies or distribute certificates for Veteran's Day and other recognition events - Improve communication within families - Read to patients

Sometimes the only contact an elder person has is via a phone call. YOUR phone call to a patient can be the friend they need just to be a listening ear or a voice of encouragement. Our program offers that ray of sunshine to brighten a patient's or caregiver's day. Won't you consider committing to helping in this way? After training, phone calls can be made from your home to an assigned patient. It is a win/win!

If you are compassionate, caring, loving and have a calling for helping others, becoming a hospice volunteer might be the perfect opportunity for you! Our volunteers give their time and talent to support patients and caregivers in a critical time of their life journey. One on one time with patients can afford volunteers the opportunity to make new friends as they hear life stories and learn new cultures, faiths and/or generational values. Volunteers time and time again express that they receive more than they give. Respite time for the caregiver is a precious gift volunteers give. Given the need, volunteers can arrange to stay with a patient while the caregiver receives much needed 'me' time or takes care of errands, doctor appointments or shopping. *Note: Hospice volunteers DO NOT do any 'hands on' care such as toileting, transferring, feeding or ambulating patients. Volunteers are strictly FRIENDLY VISITORS! Some of our volunteers join our team with hospice experience through a loved one. Others desire to pay forward. Whichever the case may be we are prepared to provide comprehensive training and orientation as well as continued support through your hospice volunteer experience. IF you have a desire to serve or just want to learn more, we would love to connect with you. Please reach out today! PLEASE contact debra.toole@compassus.com OR 484-793-3114
