Mission Statement

GEN’s mission is to provide data-driven approaches to bring gender equality to the U.S workplace. We have created the first standardized certification for gender equity in U.S. businesses, and we aim to make GEN the premier rating system for workplace equity, with name recognition on par with LEED, the HRC Index, and Energy Star.

Description

In July, 2018, GEN launched the first standardized certification for gender equity in U.S. businesses. The GEN Certification is the national gold standard for gender equity in the U.S. workplace. Businesses that are GEN Certified meet standards of excellence across five tenets of workplace culture.

The GEN certification will hold businesses accountable for going beyond pink-washing their image to truly embracing cultural designs that foster balance and inclusivity.

By making GEN a nationally recognized symbol of gender equity achievement, we will:

  • Reward employers that go beyond talk to meaningful action
  • Provide clarity for businesses that want clear benchmarks for the steps they need to take to become equity-centered employers.
  • Provide clarity for workers who want a definitive assessment of how equitable they can expect an employer to be.
  • Raise the bar on what it means to be an equity-centered employer - Moving beyond #MeToo, the GEN Certification makes a statement that balanced businesses are better businesses. Women shouldn't just be 'tolerated' at a minimum legal level - They should be valued for their talents on the same level as their peers.

We aim to level the playing field for a diversifying workforce, giving all employees equal opportunities to pursue success. We've set bold goals to be a national force for change - to move beyond non-discrimination to aspirational business models that help employees and businesses both reach their full potential.
