Looking for like minded people, that have a compassionate heart for disabled animals. First and foremost - you must care. Must be able to commit to one day a week the same day every week. The volunteer tasks primarily consist of cleaning our animal residents’ living areas. This means shoveling and scooping lots of poop, scrubbing water bowls/troughs and filling them, sweeping areas, replacing bedding, and other related tasks. We need help year round, rain or shine, so please be prepared! You must have own transportation. Tasks include lifting & bending. We ask that you only apply if you are truly committed and interested in volunteering. It takes a significant amount of time to train new volunteers. Those are precious hours that are taken away caring from our animal residents. As we invest time and energy into your training, we ask that you invest time and energy as well. Age Restrictions For safety and liability purposes, all volunteers must be at 18 years of age. Volunteering Tips Boots are a must. No sandals/sneakers. Dress for the weather. Clothing is likely to get dirty, so keep that in mind when deciding what to wear. Work gloves are also a great idea if you have them available. If you will be here for the day, please feel free to pack a lunch or bring a snack. We always have water available in the fridge. If you feel that you would make a great addition, are physically fit, and want to spend quality time helping with the well-being of our animal residents then please contact us. Shelter help You will be responsible for lifting and getting the disabled goats into their wheelchairs. Typical volunteer activities include following and completing checklists in all areas. This includes, but not limited to; cleaning animal areas, raking and pasture cleaning. Lifting 30+ pounds and walking is involved. Other duties may involve adding fresh animal bedding, cleaning/refilling water buckets, cleaning/organizing areas, refilling feed, etc. You will have a lot of animal interaction while completing your tasks. Must be to work as a team and as an individual. Volunteering can be physical so expect to get some exercise for the day. Morning shift 9am-12pm or until done. Training required. I'm in need of some extra help here at the Sanctuary. The warmer weather brings a myriad of things to do. Great opportunity for the retiree, or someone that love being outdoors with the animals. Yes, they will come up and see you to make sure you don't need help. A variety of odd jobs. A few include: Clean out the pump for our little pond. Cut back the shrubbery to prevent it from growing through our avian netting. Help with putting shade cloths up. Help with keeping the little branch in the chicken coop from backing up by cleaning out the debris that falls though the netting. Occasionally mow some of the animal areas-this helps prevent parasitic infestation. Some experience would be helpful. Once a week for a few hours.
