Mission Statement
The First Tee of Greater San Antonio is an international youth development organization introducing the game of golf and its inherent values to young people and teens. Through after school and in school programs, we help shape the lives of young people from all walks of life by reinforcing values like integrity, respect and perseverance through the game of golf. And it’s making a difference.
Description
In 1998, Golf San Antonio received its charter to run The First Tee of Greater San Antonio. The First Tee’s mission is "To impact the lives of young people around the world by creating affordable and accessible golf facilities primarily to serve those who have not had the exposure to the game and its positive values." In 2001 GSA took over operations of The First Tee Learning Center and began planning and fund raising for the renovations we see today. In April 2003 construction began on the renovations and was completed in October 2003. The Grand Opening was held November 3, 2003 with much fanfare and celebration. Presentations by PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem and Mayor Ed Garza highlighted the event as they spoke to a crowd of 200 children and community members.
