Mission Statement

The mission of the Southwest Detroit Community Justice center is to increase public trust in the justice system, assist in the reduction of crime, improve the quality of life and meet the needs of the community. A Community Court southwest Detroit Community Justice center is a Community Court Program. Community court is a specialty court that focuses on holding offenders accountable while providing social services linkages. these court actively involve the community in crime reduction initiatives.

Description

Community court work to improve confidences in the Judicial system by Making Justice Visible: Quality of life offenders pay back the community through visible community service projects such as painting over graffiti, sweeping the streets , boarding up vacant homes , and cleaning local parks. Making Justice Swift: Immediate sentencing sends the message to offenders that they will be held accountable for their action. Person accused of Misdemeanor crimes in the following southwest Detroit zip codes may be eligible to participate in community Court such as 48209 48210 48216 48217 eligible participants will be sentenced to give back to the community through visible community restitution- perform community services such as working on street clean up crew, food panties, and graffiti removal. Example: of misdemeanors cases include, but are not limited to : 1Urinating in Public Loitering in the Park Curfew violation Open Intoxication Entering vacant dwelling without
permission. *Defendants who achieve compliance with court ordered sanction can have their cases dismissed*
