Caring Coalition is a grassroots effort, providing access to good nutrition for Phoenix families who are struggling to feed their children.
Caring Coalition AZ is a backpack food program, providing weekend care packages for downtown Phoenix children in need.
One in four downtown Phoenix children experience food insecurity and based on the premise that no child should have to face this struggle, we serve school-aged children who are going without adequate food. We work with local schools to identify children and families in need and provide them with care packages with nutritious snacks to eat while home for the weekends.
Caring Coalition AZ started in November of 2013 with neighbors pitching in to help a local family with food for their Thanksgiving meal. Since then we have become a non-profit, recognized by the IRS and a Qualifying Charitable Organization for the Arizona Tax Credit.
Caring Coalition. We are presently serving 90 Preschool-12th grade students each week. As of 2019 more that 10,000 weekend care packages have been provided!
We meet weekly at a designated place of business to create the care packages. Since our beginnings, children have been an important part of our volunteer force and are always welcome. Our meeting usually take place on Thursdays at 6:00 pm. They are fun, efficient and inclusive. Work takes about 30-40 minutes and there is alway time for fun.
