Mission Statement

Community Works's mission is to engage youth and adults in programs that interrupt and heal the far-reaching impacts of incarceration and violence by empowering individuals, families, and communities. One Family is a program of Community Works. The One Family program was started to provide contact visits for all children with parents who are incarcerated. The primary goal of One Family is to provide meaningful, frequent and consistent opportunities for children to remain connected to their parents during a stressful time.

Description

The One Family program offers one-on-one therapy, in-depth parenting classes and actual visits in a room together instead of through a window. Parent child contact visits are a major component of the One Family program. By partnering with our clients during family visits, we are able to support them in taking what they are learning in the program into their relationships with their children in real time. Through our program, we aim to help our clients be able to recognize the origins of their parenting choices and consider how they can create more health and wholeness for themselves and their families.
