Description

The department currently has 10 active firefighters and first responders with 2 stations. Departmental services are supported by a very active auxiliary and the department is governed by a board of directors. We have a variety of volunteer needs, firefighters and first responders, auxiliary members for fundraising, event planning, and station support, as well as board members.

In 2013 Brierfield Volunteer Fire and Rescue joined with other area volunteer fire departments to create the First Battalion. All units respond to emergencies within a defined area.

BFR is also an active member in the Alabama Assn of Volunteer Fire Departments.

The Fire Chief is Spruce McRee, a 35 year veteran in the fire service. Chief McRee is a member of the Shelby Co Fire Chief’s Assn, Bibb Co Fire Chief’s Assn and the International Assn of Fire Chiefs. In June of 2018 Chief McRee was awarded the 2018 Southeastern Association of Fire Chiefs Volunteer/Combination Chief of the Year.
