Mission Statement

As an International Baccalaureate World School, we are a college preparatory high school with an international studies and world language focus that offers a rigorous academic curriculum. Our mission is to foster a community in which individual students, faculty, and families work together to sustain global awareness and responsibility, high academic achievement, and the ability to succeed in a diverse society. Our students take an active part in, and contribute to, their school and their local and global communities.

Description

During the 2016-2017 school year, Headmaster Roundtree and others stakeholders in the school community began the early stages of developing a community-based mentoring program as well as other mentoring initiatives within the school.
The Snowden Student Success Mentoring Program is structured to address unmet needs of identified students through one-on-one positive mentoring relationships. While the program is only in its third year, school staff and administrators have cultivated partnerships with neighbors in Back Bay and successfully engaged students and community volunteers in quality matches. A timeline of trainings, activities, and program services effectively engage youth in the program and enable volunteer mentors to make a measurable impact during the duration of each match. Our volunteer mentors support students as they navigate personal and professional development and work towards improving key performance areas in school including attendance, engagement, and coursework. The Snowden Student Success Mentoring Program aims to increase the likelihood that at-risk students achieve success in school and in life after high school graduation. Program staff and volunteers are committed to facilitating positive mentoring relationships that benefit students through research-informed and practitioner-approved youth mentoring practices. Our goal is to build the capacity of the Snowden Mentoring Program to serve at-risk youth by recruiting more community volunteers and strengthening partnerships with businesses, universities, and government agencies.
