Mission Statement

To reforest and protect threatened native ecosystems, Global Forest Generation identifies, mentors, and supports a new generation of conservation leaders whose successful collaboration with engaged indigenous and local communities helps reduce poverty, fight climate change and water scarcity, and protect endangered species.

Description

Reforestation is one of the simplest, most cost-effective solutions to the threats of climate change, water scarcity and biodiversity loss, which are expected to worsen in coming decades unless immediate action is taken. The goal is achievable! GFG believes that a critical missing element is leadership. It is our goal to develop and support a robust network of outstanding conservation partners who will be role models for successful, long-term community reforestation and forest protection. The founders of Global Forest Generation are seasoned conservationists with a proven record of mentoring generations of environmental leaders. GFG's President and CEO founded the American Bird Conservancy, from which we retired last year after 23 years at the helm. We as well as our COO are working pro-bono. We are focused on how reforestation can work to the benefit of forest-dependent communities. When the lives of villagers improve as a result of regenerating the forest, they are motivated to protect it. The benefits can take many forms. Jobs-growing seedlings in nurseries and planting and protecting the seedlings and saplings until they are strong, young trees - are just one way that families (often among the world’s poorest) can be empowered. GFG's first reforestation initiative - in the High Andes - was formally launched in July 2018.
