Mission Statement

Our mission is to make a difference in the lives of low-income youth by encouraging creativity, self-expression, and an exploration of the arts through stand-up comedy. ​ We teach them that their perspectives, ideas, and stories are unique and important, and then give them the skills to bring their work to the stage to deliver their very own stand-up comedy routine.

Description

We started with a love of stand-up comedy and a desire to use this art form to educate, empower, and teach kids in underserved communities that their ideas matter.

​ Through group classes and one-on-one mentorship, students learn the basic fundamentals of stand-up comedy and craft their very own stand-up set. At the end of each session, the students perform their material on stage.

We piloted the program in 2016 at the New Los Angeles Charter School with two classes of very brave middle schoolers. In 2017 we completed nine sessions in eight different schools or organizations. we look forward to growing stand up with comedy across more schools and age ranges.
