Our mission is to help veterans and military spouses learn software development, enter the tech industry, and code the future!
Operation Code launched as an open source project which connected volunteer software engineers with transitioning military, guard, reserve soldiers, veterans and family members - teaching them how to build software by using a simple spreadsheet and a phone. This initial initiative gained popularity, and grew to an online mentorship program.
By addressing the current economic needs to fill the national’s technical talent shortage, we aim to build talent amongst veterans and their families to minimize risks of unemployment and underemployment. To date, Operation Code has over 5,000 members in our online community, and 19 chapters nationwide. Our organization also regularly visits Washington, DC to discuss issues facing veterans and technology training, specifically regarding the GI Bill, with members of Congress and the VA.
