Mission Statement

The Mission of the Pauly Friedman and MacDonald Art Galleries is to engage the Misericordia campus and community in meaningful aesthetic and educational experiences in the visual arts.

Description

The Pauly Friedman Art Gallery and The MacDonald Gallery together occupy more than 2,700 square feet of space on the upper level of Misericordia's Sandy and Marlene Insalaco Hall. This arena is a technologically-smart learning environment that was opened to the academic community as well as the public in March 2009. The multipurpose gallery is used for performing arts as well as visual arts, such as small musical performances and poetry readings.

The humidity controlled gallery also features high tech surveillance and surround sound systems, three types of track lighting, and a bamboo floor. Portable, collapsible inner walls are available when needed. UV glass window walls and motorized blackout shades protect any artwork from light exposure. A custom-designed storage area doubles as a small theater for short creative films produced and directed by Misericordia students, for artist documentary's or for exhibiting artists who wish to enhance their shows with a demonstration film.

At the gallery, we collaborate with Misericordia faculty to provide an academic component to exhibits, offering installations that coincide with course material that enriches the students' experience. Often times the gallery will also present a lecture or lecture series that will complement the exhibition on display.

The art gallery staff strives to provide premier exhibitions and installations that culturally and educationally enrich our students and surrounding community as we continue the pursuit of excellence that is reflected at Misericordia University.
