As a Strides in Recovery assistant coach / mentor, you will walk, jog or run with a group overcoming addiction in North Hollywood. You do NOT need to be a serious runner. You do need to be capable of walking/jogging several miles while being a good listener and engaging in supportive conversation. Exercise, and especially exercise done toward a goal and with a team, has been clinically proven to promote the mindset needed to stay sober and reduce the risk of relapse. Training for this role will include an overview of the causes and treatment for addiction, with an emphasis on the physical, emotional, and mental health benefits of exercise in early recovery. The first-year post-addiction treatment relapse rate is 40-60%, and since the pandemic, the number of overdose deaths has been climbing. You will be part of bringing those numbers down! Tuesdays 3-4:30 pm (walkers 2-3 miles, women's program) Tuesdays 4:15-5:00 (walkers 2-3 miles, runners 4-5 miles, men's program) Thursdays 8:30-10am (runners and walkers, men's program) Thursdays 3-4:30 pm (walkers 2-3 miles, women's program) Fridays 3-4:30pm (walkers 2-3 miles, women's program) Fridays 4:15-5:00 (walkers 2-3 miles, runners 4-5 miles, men's program) Thank you.
