Mission Statement
"Food Recovery Network unites students on college campuses to fight food waste and hunger by recovering perishable food that would otherwise go to waste from their campuses and communities and donating it to people in need."
Description
We are a local chapter at the University of Illinois at Chicago that is working actively to reduce food waste. When we initially started in 2016, we recovered a total of 1600 lbs of food from the waste stream. In 2018 so far, we have already recovered 8000 lbs. Currently, we recover from the UIC Dining Hall and Chicago French Market, and serve La Case Norte, Revive Center, and Mercy Home. Recently, the UI Health hospital system has partnered with us to serve a new Franciscan Outreach branch in Pilsen, our largest food recovery program to date.
