Mission Statement
Project Street Outreach provides homeless Veterans as well as military and their families who are in crisis with essential necessities for basic living that include clothes, blankets, sleeping bags, tents, household goods, personal hygiene needs and food. Working with SC Serves we assess each veteran we are in contact with to determine other assistance they may need.
Description
PSO Inc. was founded in 2012 by Executive Director J. Denise Cromwell in memory of her uncle, a retired Army veteran who completed four tours of duty in Vietnam. As with so many of our combat vets he struggled with severe PTSD which caused him to become homeless and eventually take his own life. Denise began her outreach to veterans in 2000 by bringing food and other needs to the homeless camps in the Charleston area, searching out veterans in need. In 2016 she became a registered 501(c)(3) charity and PSO, Inc. was born. Each year PSO, Inc. provides services to approximately 500 veterans in the form of meals, food, clothing, basic necessities, and household goods. As a network member of SC Serves we have been able to refer many of these veterans to the network for assistance in a wide variety of other areas.
