Description
Lake Pend Oreille Waterkeeper (LPOW) is a non-profit organization located in Sandpoint, Idaho. Founded in 2009, Lake Pend Oreille Waterkeeper works in the public interest to minimize water pollution in Lake Pend Oreille and related water bodies. Our area of focus includes the lake, the Pend Oreille River down to Albeni Falls Dam, the Clark Fork up to Cabinet Gorge Dam, and all the tributaries that flow into the lake.
LPOW works on a variety of issues that impact the integrity of our local waterways including wastewater, stormwater, aquatic pesticide use and transport of hazardous materials by rail throughout the watershed. LPOW also runs the largest citizen science water quality monitoring program in North Idaho and provides educational opportunities to area youth through our hands-on lake model classroom presentations and our Watershed Discovery summer day camp.
