Mission Statement
The American Cancer Society’s mission is to save lives, celebrate lives, and lead the fight for a world without cancer
Description
Relay for Life is the number one fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, it is NOT a race or a "running" event. You CAN run, but most people walk and it is not NOT for athletes only.
Relay for Life is designed to bring the community together to Celebrate Survivors, Remember those we have lost to cancer and Fight Back against the disease that has taken so much from our lives.
People create teams and fundraise to make a difference in the fight against cancer. Each team is asked to have at least one member walking along the Canyon Rim Trail for the entire event. This is meant to imitate the struggle of a cancer survivor...starting in the light, moving into the darkness that is diagnosis and treatment and finally coming back into the light of remission or cure. We must realize, though, that anyone diagnosed with cancer is a survivor until the fight is lost. To date, there are nearly 14 million cancer survivors. Another Happy Birthday to them all!
