Mission Statement

Addressing the issues of over population of companion animals by offering no/low cost Spay and Neuter services to underserved communities, providing local adoptions to qualified people and transporting/recolating at-risk shelter animals monthly from Southern California high-intake shelters to fully vetted Rescue Partners in the Pacific Northwest.

Description

Shelter Transport Animal Rescue Team (START) 501C3 non-profit group, rescues animals from overcrowded high-kill Southern & Central CA shelters. We transport monthly up to 125 plus animals via our customized animal transport RV (The Beast) to fully vetted organizations in OR & WA, where they are readily adopted into good homes. Since our founding in 2011, we have saved over 10,300 dogs & nearly 500 cats. We also provide spay/neuter & medical help to underserved communities in Riverside, Palmdale, Lancaster, Porterville and other areas/people in need.

START's other programs:

* "Beyond Borders" program that rescues dogs out of Mexico & Dog Meat Farms in South Korea

  • Grassroots program assists small rescues with seed money to rescue animals from high kill shelters.
  • The Joyce Newman Legacy Fund s is a designated fund that helps provide money rescue cats/ kittens from High-kill shelters.

START website also contains a resource section. START also recently opened a thrift store in Sherman Oaks, CA in a new effort to raise needed funds. START is a small group accomplishing BIG things for homeless animals, with a hope for bigger things to come. We are "The Little Engine That Could". The group of six does amazing things and gets amazing results.
