Mission Statement

The Commission is a state of Illinois agency that protects the rights of persons with disabilities through 3 distinct programs, the Office of State Guardian, the Human Rights Authority and the Legal Advocacy Service.

Description

The Office of State Guardian which serves as guardian of last report for adults with disabilities as determined by the probate courts; the Human Rights Authority which investigates allegations of rights violations committed against persons with disabilities by service providers; and, the Legal Advocacy Services which provides legal advice and representation for persons with disabilities.

I have been volunteering with them since last fall and it’s very interesting. There is a degree of traveling to various health care clinics and hospitals. I recommend some knowledge in health care, as you are investigating allegations of abuse/restricted rights of mentally ill consumers.
